For Jennie…

***** This auction has ended. Thank you!*****

Things happen for a reason… That is the rule I want to believe in!

However, life has its own agenda and does not feel the need to let us know ahead. Sometimes one thing happens without a reason, out of order, pulls the rug under our feet, leaves us cold and shivering. There is always one exception to the rule!

That is what happened to a fellow blogger, Jennie several weeks ago, when she lost her husband to a sudden heart attack. Left her and her two girls without the love of their lives.

And the blogsphere filled with Peanut Butter Pies for Mikey…because that is what he loved…because that is what Jennie put on her to-do list for him.

Now, she is not only struggling with the grief but also the financial aftermath of the tragedy. Because she earns too much according to Social Security (the cap is $14,160/year), she can not collect benefits. On top of this, the health insurance will expire in December, and the mortgage might have to paid in full in one payment! This might be just the tip of an iceberg, who knows what other curves the life will throw!

I have always found it amazing that the blogging community comes together in time of need. No selfishness, no me but togetherness to help a greater cause. Bloggers Without Borders do just that. Help the bloggers in time of need. They have started a project for Jennie.

Bloggers who are willing to auction items, services writes a post like this one, and gives the rest of the community a chance to help by bidding. All proceeds go to Jennie.

I have decided to join the auctioning crowd. I am auctioning prop items for your food photographs. I will shop for you in two antique malls and in my favorite stores here in the Carolinas and will send a pile of items to you for you to use in your blog photos, in your kitchen or in your home. You see my selection of prop items and the winner can also take 3 items from the selected items in my collection.

I will first contact the highest bidder and chat a little bit about their likes, styles to get an idea what to shop for. Then there might be some picture exchanges during shopping. But at the end, it will be like Christmas! A box will arrive at your door step and hopefully you will like what you see. I will definitely throw in some Turkish items as well.

The number of the items in the basket depends on the finds at the stores, and antique malls. Believe me I try my best to get the best bang for the buck and I haggle and bargain just like my grandma! The trick is … The more you bid, the more I spend – within my budget, capping at $100.   (The highest bid between $50-$100 will get up to $25 worth of items, between $100-$200 will get up to $50 worth of items, $200-$300 will get up to $75 worth of items, and over $300 will get up to $100 worth of items – shipping paid by me)

I will ask the winner to make a donation (for the amount of the winning bid) into the Bloggers without Borders Paypal account and then have them confirm payment by showing an e-mail receipt or screenshot which confirms payment. The auction starts now and ends Sunday, August 28th 1 pm EST. The winner will be announced later that day.

So how much would you pay for a personal shopper to go and shop for old and new items, fabrics, backgrounds, colors for your blog? Let’s start the bid at $50 , shall we? Then start commenting below! Or if you do not want to mess with an auction, you can click on the button below and donate directly!

Thanks for visiting!

Ha! Was he buying or selling?

I am sad to say that I had never come across your blog before I saw it on the #afundforjennie listing page, but now that I have found ya I’m also sad to say that I’m probably going to put on 20 pounds :) The “any berry cake” will soon be sour cherry cake since that’s what I have in the fridge and HELLO ricotta scones, where have you been all my life? Oh Ilke, I want to move next door to you and be your best friend. So go let the neighbors know that they need to start looking for a new place to live, ok?

Beth you are so funny :) There are so MANY blogs out there… I am glad you found me so that I could find yours. We do have houses for sale in my neighborhood, sadly on the market for a long time though :(
For my husband, he used to do both but I guess it more adrenaline pumping when he is buying and beating someone else in the bidding process :)

I hate that I missed the auction. I had to unplug lately due to work commitments but what I did see on the outpouring of love and support that the blogging community sent Jennie’s way was truly inspiring. Your generosity will be much appreciated I’m sure.
